Nursery ICU

Sacred Heart Medical Center Nursery/NICU Area is one of the many areas in the hospital that caters all the needs and welfare of in-house deliveries, newborn care, admissions, and medical interventions of well, sick, and premature infants.

The department is divided into three main areas, whereas, each area is designed and equipped with facilities needed to fulfill each care description.

Circle_Green The Well baby room is primarily created to provide intermediate care for all newly admitted deliveries. It can accommodate a total of 8 babies. It comprises of routine newborn and cord care, assessment and observation of infants, immunization and monitoring of vital signs.

Circle_Green Rooming-in of babies is also implemented depending on the Pediatrician’s discretion or baby’s condition. A clearance for rooming-in will be issued after the baby has been monitored and given thorough nursing care.

Circle_Green Next, is the Septic In-born room (intermediate in-born) and Septic Out-born (intermediate out-born), they are designed to care for neonates born with known risk or with high risk of infections and developing abnormal symptoms during the transition phase.

Circle_Green The Septic In-born can accommodate a total of four (4) babies, and two (2) babies for Septic Out-born. The Septic Out-born area, that accommodates babies 28 days old and below, has a separate cubicle and entrance to the nursery.

Circle_Green The final area is the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) which is giving direct and uninterrupted care to neonates with life threatening and delicate medical conditions.

It can accommodate a total of four premature patients and it provides the following services:

*Monitoring of infant’s clinical state

*Maintenance of parenteral infusions

*Administration of medications

*Other medical related and life saving contraptions such as oxygen inhalation , providing positive pressure ventilation and other extensive resuscitation

Also, the department has a breastfeeding area wherein mothers may provide the necessary nutritional needs of every newborn in an environment that is both relaxing and comfortable to the mother and infant.

Furthermore, nursing care is ensured inside the unit’s premise because of the presence of an adjacent nurses’ station manned by hard working and diligent nursing personnel.
